Holiday Scratch-Off Tradition Brings $100,000 Gift To Gaston County Man

STANLEY, N.C. (News Release) A family tradition of playing scratch-off tickets during the holidays delivered a gift of $100,000 to Joshua Brackett of Stanley.
Brackett, a plumber, said he and his mother and brother were sitting around the kitchen table with scratch-off tickets he purchased at the Kingsway on Chapel Grove School Road. There, they discovered that one of Brackett’s two $20 Holiday Countdown tickets had a $100,000 prize.
“I just picked my mom up and hugged her,” said Brackett. “That’s all I could do at that time.”
He claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $70,756. ....

RALEIGH, N.C. (News Release) A lucky streak for Randy Sigmon of Statesville ended Friday when he collected a $100,000 scratch-off prize.
Sigmon said his good luck started in November and since then he collected three smaller prizes, a $1,000 win, a second $1,000 win, and then a $5,000 win from scratch-off tickets.
His big win came when he bought a $20 Holiday Countdown ticket at the B&B Quick Stop on Water Tank Road in Statesville and won the $100,000 prize. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $70,756.
“I have a horseshoe in my pocket, I guess,” said Sigmon as he collected his prize. ....

Vickie Henry, a former biology teacher and assistant principal won $150,000 after a ticket helped her win the prize.
Henry won the top prize in the lottery’s first Holiday Luck second-chance drawing on Wednesday. She said she got an email notifying her of her win Wednesday night, but had a hard time believing it was true. ....
