I have been homeless for a year. I wasn t black-listed from my last rental but I wouldn t move out just when the first lot of COVID hit Mackay as we didn t have another place.
My mother is 80 years old and has been living in her rental for five years with my 83 year old father who had dementia and asbestosis.
Recently the owner came on an inspection with the real estate then the next day the real estate rang to say mum had to vacate by her lease s end.
Mum has always paid her rent, never had complaints and all she s asked us for is the owner to fix the blinds which she never did. ....

Developers have their sights set on the Airlie Beach foreshore as the “ideal” location for the Whitsundays’ newest luxury resort.
A vacant 1.01ha site at 125 Shingley Drive is the proposed location for a new 14 storey resort, comprising 175 rooms, a 480sq m function centre, multiple pool areas, and spa facilities.
Planning documents before the Whitsunday Regional Council and released for public notification this week reveal a number of premium hotel operators have been identified as potential managers, including Hilton, Accor, and Marriott International.
Proponents One Whitsunday Development Pty Ltd say they can build the $80m complex within two years, and have it up and running by 2024, generating 125 jobs and $12m annual economic benefit to the region once operational, in addition to the 166 jobs and $56 million economic benefit generated during construction. ....

One proposed foreshore hotel/apartment building, only part of the complex, would tower above Airlie and dominate the entire foreshore.
Developers may well have interpreted Cr Brunkerâs statement to a council meeting saying he supported high-rise in Airlie Beach (seen by Save Our Foreshore officers on meeting livestream August 26, 2020) as a sign that all of council is open to high-rise proposals, despite the flouting of the town plan, despite tourism industry indicators and despite endless community opposition. ....

Plans for jaw-dropping resort at Shingley Beach unveiled

The proposal describes the future of the Whitsundays, in 2036 and beyond, as a location that is prosperous, liveable and sustainable.
The proposal will contribute to providing a development where people will live, work, play and invest due to the mix of uses and range of accommodation types, it states.
The proposal will assist in providing a positive contribution towards the tourism sector by providing a resort complex facility which will contribute to the local economy by way of visitation to the area, employment opportunities and support for local business and trade.
