Food on the menu in bid to save Winton Arms | East Lothian Courier


FRESH food could be on the menu in a bid to breathe new life into a village pub.
Pencaitland’s Winton Arms is currently closed but Caledonian Heritable Ltd is looking to ensure the business has a future.
The Edinburgh-based developer was given permission in September last year to transform part of the pub into a restaurant.
Amended plans are now with East Lothian Council, which show space outside for bicycles and an electronic vehicle charging point.
Among the inside changes is the layout on the ground floor of the pub.
Ralph Averbuch, chairman of Pencaitland Community Council, was confident that most people would be pleased to see a continued commitment to ensuring the building had a future. ....

Farewell to RNLI fundraising stalwart Carol McMinn


FAMILY and friends have said farewell to a much-loved North Berwick fundraising stalwart following her sad passing at the age of 62.
Carol McMinn (née Duffy) was well-known in the town for her involvement with the local RNLI, with whom husband Ian is a volunteer, and for having once run local pub The Auld Hoose.
She also latterly worked in the newspaper kiosk at the town’s train station.
Born in Ayrshire on December 6, 1958, Carol, who was an only child, moved to North Berwick with her mother as a teenager, after she had left school.
She worked at the Marine Hotel, becoming the face of their reception and welcoming people to North Berwick. ....
