Why you might want to avoid Cabana Road in Windsor

WINDSOR, ONT.
Windsor drivers might want to find a better route across the south side of the city starting Thursday, because Cabana Road will be down to just two lanes.
The city is putting the final asphalt onto the rebuilt street, as part of an ongoing, multi-year project to improve the vital east-west artery in south Windsor.
The street will be down to one lane in each direction from Thursday until Saturday, weather depending.
Access to side streets will be closed, impacting residents on Ouellette, Inglewood and Huntington Avenues for the duration of the work.
Traffic is expected to flow normally on Howard Road and Dougall Avenue where it crosses Cabana. ....

City looks forward to next stage of new mega hospital

WINDSOR, ONT.
City of Windsor officials say they are looking forward to the next stage of the process to bring a $2-billion mega hospital to the region.
The Divisional Court released its decision Wednesday denying a motion for an Extension of Time to appeal certain parts of an earlier decision issued by the Divisional Court in July 2020. This marks the third time that the group of opponents to the new acute care hospital’s future location has been ruled against.
“There’s been a great deal of tax payer dollars spent on litigating what is for most a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime project for our entire region, so I truly hope this is the end of the challenges,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “We need this hospital; we have an excellent site for this hospital; and we have the support of the provincial government and the residents of Windsor-Essex to move forward.” ....

WECHU reporting two new deaths, 37 new COVID-19 infections Saturday

LONDON, ONT.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting 37 new cases of COVID-19 but two new deaths Saturday.
The deaths include a woman in her 100s from the community and a woman in her 90s from the community. The death toll related to COVID-19 now sits at 416 people.
Windsor-Essex has had a total of 15,752 confirmed cases of the virus, including 14,988 people who have recovered.
There are 348 active cases, of them 178 are variants of concern and 170 are non-VOC cases, 22 people are hospitalized.
“We have seen that we are starting to trend downward with respect to cases, but still our cases continue to be significantly high for our region,” said medical officer of heath Dr. Wajid Ahmed on Friday. ....
