NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A Lowcountry woman is working to make a difference in her community.
On Saturday, Rhonda Blake hosted a food drive from her home on Riverview Avenue in North Charleston.
“It’s a give back,” Blake said. “We got the COVID virus going on, we got people out of work, we’ve got children that are home every day still going to school at home and we still got children that going to school. I want to be able to come and help someone along the way.” ....

MAURICE, La. â The Vermilion Parish School System is going back to the drawing board on its plan to distribute meal boxes to students during the upcoming break after long waits and a site closure Thursday afternoon.
The board announced this week it is partnering with Focus Foods to provide meals to students during distributions scheduled for the next few weeks. The first boxes were handed out Wednesday afternoon.
KATC learned that the distribution at Cecil Picard Elementary in Maurice was shut down by the Maurice Police Department, according to the school board. Superintendent Tommy Byler apologized to parents for the pick up line fiasco, adding that there was an extreme increase of people signing up late and we didn t anticipate the amount of pick up right at four. ....

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The CDC reports that Alabama has administered the fewest vaccine doses per 100,000 residents out of every state, ranking it last for vaccine rollout.
But, state health officials said the distribution will speed up soon.
Dr. Karen Landers said by the end of this week, all enrolled providers within the state will be given doses of vaccine. Thatâs more than 1,200 suppliers.
Dr. Landers said a lack of vaccine supply and a lack of providers is why the state is ranking last, along with a lag in data. ....

The Lafayette Parish School System is expanding food distribution to youth in the community to provide supplemental nutrition while schools are closed for Easter/spring break.
All children 18 years of age and younger in Lafayette Parish are eligible, regardless if they are enrolled in LPSS schools or not.
To register to receive meals, parents should visit www.focusfoods.org/register, select Lafayette Parish, and complete the online registration form by the
deadline of Friday, April 2, 2021, at 11:59 p.m.
Meals will be distributed via drive-thru service only on Saturday, April 3, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Lafayette Parish at the following school sites: ....
