Local airports were awarded grant money by the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission during their regularly scheduled meeting held last week.
With construction season thriving, the commission approved several state grants for projects in the 5-year Airport Construction Program which will support needed improvements for the Oklahoma Airport System. Among the awarded grants, Elk City Regional Airport received $404,954 in state funding to support the almost $1 million project to install LED runway lights, visual glideslope lighting known as PAPIs, and a weather reporting system. Also, Weatherford’s Thomas P. Stafford Airport received a $500,000 state grant to construct a new terminal building that will be located adjacent to the newly renovated Thomas P Stafford Air and Space Museum. ....

Charles Ortega of Altus has been appointed by Governor Kevin Stitt to serve on the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission through 2025 representing the third Congressional district.
Representative Charles Ortega is a dedicated champion of our Oklahoma military aviation who worked to support this critical industry while a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, said Gov. Stitt.
