The 38-year-old snowblower at the Williams Lake Airport will be replaced.
According to a report from Manager of Public Works Matt Sutherland, staff have experienced difficulty in finding parts for the aged unit, and replacing it with a new snowblower would allow staff to continue to maintain Airport operation standards.
During Tuesday’s city council meeting, Councillor Scott Nelson said the City had applied for Airports Capital Assistance Program three different times for the snowblower. Funding was denied for the snowblower, but the city says they have budgeted for a snowblower. ....

Lloydminster Airport granted federal safety funding

Some safety upgrade money for the Lloydminster Airport has been earmarked by the Federal Government.
In an announcement Tuesday, the Canadian Government laid out plans to provide $20 million total via Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program for airports across Alberta.
This money, the feds say, will allow for projects including runway and taxiway repairs or rehabilitation, lighting enhancements, purchasing snow clearing equipment and firefighting vehicles and installing wildlife fencing.
Here in Lloydminster, a total of $105,000 will be invested for a runway de-icer.  Runway de-icing causes frozen deposits of snow or ice to melt. It will also prevent freezing or re-freezing of liquid on the surface in the first place by lowering its freezing point. ....
