Community group calls for consideration to reopen old runway


A community group fighting to have flight paths remodelled above Sunshine Coast Airport has called for the former runway to be reopened.
Flight Path Forum, which had primarily focused on routes flown by aircraft, this week called for consideration to be given to reopening the old runway 18/36 which was decommissioned as part of the Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion Project to deliver a new, $334 million extended runway catering to Code E aircraft.
Flight Path Forum spokeswoman Marian Kroon said local aviation operators had expressed safety and design concerns about the new runway since June, 2020 and problems had been exacerbated during the recent Easter period with added traffic and poor weather. ....

Two dead in light plane crash in Exmouth in Western Australia identified


A popular tourist town is mourning two prominent business owners who died in a light plane crash.
Mal Watts and Samantha Nuttall were reported missing to police after failing to return from a flight about 4.30pm on Wednesday.
Following a desperate search for the couple, the flight wreckage was found about three hours later at Cape Range National Park canyon, south of Exmouth in northern Western Australia. 
The recovery operation began early on Thursday, and Mr Watts and Ms Nuttall were identified as the two on board.
Heartbroken friends expressed their shock after hearing about the devastating news.
We did know them pretty well - I used to play cricket with Mal, and through the business, that is how we know them, a friend told The West Australian. ....
