A community group fighting to have flight paths remodelled above Sunshine Coast Airport has called for the former runway to be reopened. Flight Path Forum, which had primarily focused on routes flown by aircraft, this week called for consideration to be given to reopening the old runway 18/36 which was decommissioned as part of the Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion Project to deliver a new, $334 million extended runway catering to Code E aircraft. Flight Path Forum spokeswoman Marian Kroon said local aviation operators had expressed safety and design concerns about the new runway since June, 2020 and problems had been exacerbated during the recent Easter period with added traffic and poor weather.
