HONG KONG (Bloomberg): Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd is offering voluntary redundancy to staff including pilots, cabin crew and airport workers as it continues to struggle with a collapse in travel because of Covid.
The Hong Kong-based airline said operating conditions remain incredibly challenging” and that the decision was based on requests from some employees. It expects no discernible improvement to operations in the short to medium term. The South China Morning Post reported earlier Wednesday (April 28) that Cathay had offered voluntary redundancy to pilots and cabin crew. ....

Pilots grave concerns about aircraft laser strikes are going unheard by the relevant authorities as incidents mount.
That s according to New Zealand Air Line Pilots Association spokesperson Captain Tim Robinson who says his demands to ban high-powered lasers have been falling on deaf ears .
I don t want to put words in their mouth but they obviously doesn t think the risk is great enough and we certainly do, Robinson said.
We would hate to see a fatal accident, especially from a medium to large-size commercial airliner, because these lasers continue to illuminate aircraft. ....

NEW DELHI: Air India pilots have requested the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to temporarily suspend breath analyser (BA) tests in the wake of surge in Covid-19 cases. The regulator had last March-end suspended these tests conducted by blowing into a tube to ensure the crew is not inebriated due to coronavirus following demands from pilots after one of them had tested Covid positive.
The tests were resumed last September with airlines asked to do random pre-flight BA for 10% crew operating domestic flights and 100% for international operations. This 10% was hiked to 25% on March, 2021, when Covid situation was improving. ....
