Local high school students pay visit to elementary students on "Grad Walks"

Seniors around the area paid a visit to local elementary schools on their Grad Walks .

The Stevens seniors were welcomed by excited future high schoolers who surprised them with a sign.
Some of the Stevens students attended Corral Drive Elementary and got to visit with some of their old teachers.
The seniors say that while it was good see the teachers, seeing and interacting with the young grads made it a fun and rewarding day.
“It was really cute to see all the kids’ reactions. They seemed really happy to see us and like it made their day I feel like,” said Katie Collins, a Senior at Rapid City Stevens High School. “I liked it.” ....

RAPID CITY, S.D. Many of us rode our bikes to school growing up.
The act is celebrated on May 5 in National Bike to School Day and for Roman Slack, it was just another day in the seat.
“When I wake up, all I have to do is take out my bike and then I just kinda know the routes because I already planned it and I start riding,” Roman said.
Roman’s a freshman at Rapid City Stevens High School and has been biking to school for most of his youth to his nearby elementary and middle schools – not to mention his mountain and gravel biking background. ....

My name is Abby Scott and I’m a senior at Stevens High School in Rapid City South Dakota.
I started in 6th grade and actually went to Sturgis Middle School in 7th grade and didn’t’ have the best band experience just because they didn’t place as big an emphasis on the arts there. So, I was really hesitant to do it my 8th grade year, but my mom said, “just try it one more year and if you don’t like it, then that’s OK and you can not play,” so then I joined it 8th grade year, and yeah, there’s no way I could quit band. According to South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame,
The 1977 Rapid City Stevens grad won the gold medal at 136.5 pounds in freestyle wrestling at the 1984 Olympics, outscoring his first four opponents 52-4 to advance to the final, where he crushed Japan s Kosei Akaishi 24-11 in 4:52. He was the youngest member of 1980 Olympic wrestling team but President Jimmy Carter’s boycott prevented the U.S. team from traveling to the Games in Moscow.
