A NEW park being built in North Lanarkshire is on schedule to open in time for the school summer holidays. The facility at Ravenscraig will include a play area, sensory garden, visitor hub with disabled toilet and a cafe, events area, a network of walking and cycling routes, a multi sports pitch and an outdoor gym. A feature path will be created along the line of the historic steel strip mill, and seating areas will be located throughout. The £3.7 million park is being built by North Lanarkshire Council, as part of its plans to regenerate the former steelworks site. The play area will have climbing walls, swings, trampolines, bouncing discs, a climbing tower, zip slide, talk tubes, balance beams and posts, incorporating accessible facilities for children and young people with mobility issues.

Tiny forrest project to have huge impact for kids in Glasgow AN East End community is now home to Scotland’s first Tiny Forest – one of a dozen around the UK bringing green benefits to deprived areas. Sited on Avenue End Road in Easterhouse, the forest is no bigger than a tennis court but organisers promising significant boosts from the scheme. It forms part of Earthwatch Europe’s scheme to plant hundreds of Tiny Forests across urban areas of the UK by 2023.
