Vanuatu authorities release ship


Vanuatu authorities have released a flagged UK tanker and crew that had been investigated after a dead crew member found washed ashore on a beach and infected with Covid-19.
BW Epic Kosan operates the LPG gas tanker Inge Kosan had been anchored off the capital Port Vila while police and health workers carried out and investigation.
Prime minister Bob Loughman confirmed the release of the vessel yesterday evening.
Mr Loughman said the blood tests of 26 people in quarantine because they had contact with the body and crew, have all shown no sign of the Covid-19 virus.
A UK-flagged tanker has been detained by Vanuatu police force and ports authorities in Port Vila amid investigations over the death one of its members crews. 12 April 2021. ....

Vanuatu main hospital urged to stop polluting lagoon

The Vila Central Hospital was made to put up notices at the start of the year, warning the public against using the lagoon for recreational activities.
The acting director of the Water Monitoring and Evaluation Unit Erie Sami said the hospital ignored an extension to remedy the problem by March, and now at worst risked being shut down.
Mr Sami restated that the discharge of sewage into the lagoon was in breach of the water resources management act, punishable with a penalty of up to $US50,000.
He said the hospital management should consider the seriousness of failing to abide by the act. ....

P&O Pacific Partnership Backs Community Fundraising Campaign to Fix Leaking Corridor Roof Adjoining Maternity Unit
The P&O Pacific Partnership, which is funded by the generous donations from the cruise line’s guests, has thrown its support behind the fundraising campaign to repair the corridor roof adjoining Vila Central Hospital’s maternity unit and children’s ward.
The Partnership has committed AUD$21,000 (VT1.9 million) to the ‘Giving Hands Vanuatu’ fundraising campaign initiated by Carissa Jacobe, managing director of maritime manning agency South Sea Services.
This donation represents a significant portion of the overall cost of fixing leaks in the corridor roof, which have contributed to flooding of the walkway in recent years. ....

Hair Cutting Fundraiser This Sunday


This Sunday a special fundraiser in support of the Vila Central Hospital (VCH) Children’s Ward will involve a pair of scissors and cutting the hair of the one of the founders of the event — Sally Collard.
The idea was borne three weeks ago to give the pikininis at the Children’s Ward a memorable Christmas gift, during what can be agreed by most as a tough year.
The trio — Roderick Aiong, Sally Collard and Janet Kalpukai — are inviting the public down to VCH from 2-30pm -5pm to play hairdresser for cash for the children.
Ms. Collard, “I volunteered to cut my hair, Roderick is doing the communication with the manager of the hospital, so all my hair, I’m doing it for the children in the hospital, cutting my hair to raise money.” ....
