Clock Face Miners have plenty to be proud of in 100 years


This makes Clock Face the oldest amateur Rugby League club in the town.
It was formed by the local Clock Face Colliery and in particular the Colliery’s owner The Earl of Crawford.
The Earl was a social visionary and in 1914 had built the Clock Face Miners Recreation Club and grounds to house various sports as a recreational past time for his employees, one of these being Rugby League.
Nearly 100 years on although the Colliery is long gone, Clock Face Miners ARLFC is still based at the Club and playing on the grounds donated by the late Earl.
The club entered the St.Helens and Widnes District League in 1921 and were runners-up in its inaugural season. ....

60 years since Saints classic Wembley win over Wigan - and the red vee


TODAY, May 13, 2021 marks a special anniversary in the history of St Helens RFC – the 60th anniversary of one of the club’s greatest achievements: the 12-6 Challenge Cup final victory over Wigan at Wembley Stadium.
It was the first time that the two old rivals had met at this stage and also the first time that the Saints’ players wore the famous red vee jersey, now synonymous with our team throughout the world of rugby league.
It might have been quite different. Club colours at that time were white jerseys with red chest and arm bands, which had been worn in their past two visits to the famous stadium, in 1953 and 1956. ....
