Byron Shire included in development of Richmond River catchment CMP
Work has started on the development of the Richmond River Coastal Management Program (CMP), a long-term strategy for the management of the Richmond River catchment which includes parts of the Byron Shire.
In the past a Coastal Zone Management Plan focused on the management of the Richmond River in the Ballina, Lismore and Richmond Valley council areas.
“This time the plan is for a ‘whole of catchment approach’ to the Richmond River, recognising how the health of the upper catchments affect the lower reaches of the river,” Peter Boyd, Biodiversity and Agricultural Projects Officer, said. ....

Flood watch issued for North Coast rivers

Heavy rainfall associated with a deepening low pressure trough off the northern coast has the
potential to cause minor flooding in parts of the Northern Rivers early next week.
The catchments likely to be impacted are saturated from recent rainfall, which increases the risk of flooding.
River rises are expected in the flood watch catchments in response to the forecast rain and
minor flooding may develop from Monday. Flood Classes (minor, moderate, major) are only
defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.
Localised flooding and disruption to some transport routes are possible.
