'We're having fun': Game On Expo allows participants to explore many different ways to play | Region

Initial response was slow Saturday morning for Game On Expo at Wilson Park Recreation Center, but picked up in the afternoon, said Miranda Maloy, program coordinator for Temple Parks and Recreation.
This was the department’s second year to have the expo, with role playing demonstrations, character building classes, video game tournaments, a costume contest and more. Outdoor activities included a huge cushioned wrecking ball and a renaissance game called “Kubb.”

Heather Tobias of Killeen sat in the corner of the game room, wearing a blue wig and the mask of Sal Fisher from the video game “Sallyface.” She carried a ghost catcher made by her daughter, Audrey. ....

Free student meals start Monday

A free meals program provided by local school districts aims to keep children fed and healthy over the summer.

Donna Shelton, assistant director of nutrition services at BISD, said the summer meals are a part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture program that helps feed children.
“Many children rely on school meals during the academic year, and we’re thrilled to be able to continue offering them throughout the summer months at no cost to the child,” Shelton said. “These nutritious meals will help ensure the kids have a healthy summer and are ready to learn when school resumes in August.” ....
