Robert L. Bernd, 97, of Williamsburg, VA died on May 9, 2021. He was born in New Richmond, WI on July 9, 1923. He served in the Navy in WWII from 1942 through 1946, eventually as a line officer on the navy aircraft carrier Point Cruz in the Pacific.
He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 1947 with a B.S. Degree and received management training from the General Electric Company, Medical Division where he began his working career.
His work experiences were varied and included building and managing a manufacturing plant in Charlottesville, VA. He later served as Corporate director of industrial Relations and Services at Premark International Food Equipment Group. During his career he served on the adjunct faculty at the University of Virginia and later the adjunct faculty Edison State College of Ohio. ....

WILLIAMSBURG Donald Clyde “Don” Stringer, 84, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at his home. He was a retired journalist who served as managing editor of the Daily News in Bowling Green, Kentucky, for many years. He also was an adjunct professor at Western Kentucky University in the School of Journalism.
He previously worked at the Atlanta Times and the Nashville Banner newspapers. He was a member of Sigma Delta Chi journalism fraternity and was active in state newspaper associations.
Don was born in Bay Springs, Mississippi, and grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He completed a B.S. degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. He served in the First Cavalry Division in Korea in field artillery and wrote for the Stars and Stripes while in the military. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association. ....

Harry O. Leader, 91, served on the Williamsburg-James City County School Board


WILLIAMSBURG Dr. Harry Leader, 91, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021.
He was born June 20, 1929, in Lafayette, Indiana, and grew up there. After graduating from Jefferson High School, he went to Purdue University, where he obtained a B.A., a Master’s in Educational Administration, and later, a Ph.D. in Philosophy.
While in graduate school, he met and married Elaine Thompson Lycan. They lived in West Lafayette, Indiana, as they merged their two families, and finished graduate school. From there, they moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, where Harry became a professor at Indiana State University, with the responsibility of training teachers and administrators. He also instituted several innovations in public education. One of the highlights of their years in Terre Haute was following Larry Bird through his basketball career at Indiana State. ....

WILLIAMSBURG Marianna Kutzner Lee, 89, cherished mother and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021.
A longtime resident of Williamsburg, Marianna was born Jan. 11, 1932. It was her aspiration in life to be there for those who needed her the most, and she was the first person to lend a helping hand. She was truly selfless and made sure all who were around her were taken care of.
Marianna was a valuable employee of the City of Williamsburg and retired after 30 years of dedicated service. She was called “Grandma” by many, including local establishments who grew to love her as well.
Marianna was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Lee; son, Billy Newman; daughter, Kay Nordeman; and eight siblings. ....
