Family Court is a civil court that hears cases involving children and families, such as child custody and support cases, neglect and abuse cases, juvenile delinquency, family offenses and paternity cases, and are present in every county in New York state.
Elected for 10-year terms, Family Court Judges determine the outcome of cases and issue orders, if necessary, after listening to witnesses and reviewing all information presented during the process.
“Family Court handles matters concerning families and children in our community who are facing difficult circumstances,” said Democratic candidate and current Principal Court Attorney for Tioga County Family Court Judge Mara Grace. “These situations have immediate significant impact … and the decision made by the Family Court judges affect the lives and the family of children in our community in Broome County.” ....

Jury finds Binghamton man guilty of weapons possession, assault
BINGHAMTON (WBNG) The Broome County District Attorney s Office announced Thursday that a jury found Lavaughn Ramseur of Binghamton guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and assault in the third degree.
The District Attorney s Office said, in August 2019, Ramseur discharged a handgun on Schiller Street in Binghamton and injured another person. They say Ramseur was sent to the Broome County Jail and faces up to 15 years in prison.
Ramseur is scheduled to be sentenced on July 30.
Of the case, Broome County District Attorney Michael A. Korchak said, Those who endanger our community by the possession and use of illegal firearms will be held accountable.” ....
