TOKYO - About 3,500 out of more than 40,000 volunteers have withdrawn from their role as city guides for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Japan s state broadcaster NHK said that according to the withdrawal numbers released by nine out of the 11 hosting prefectural governments that recruited city volunteers, Chiba Prefecture topped the list with 1,083 withdrawals by the end of last month, followed by Miyagi with about 800 and Fukushima with about 630. ....

”I think you got to see it up close today,” Komatsu said during the test event at Aomi Urban Sports Park on an overcast Sunday afternoon in Tokyo’s Koto Ward. “I think that proximity is one of the charms of 3×3. In the five-man game, sometimes you’re far away. In 3×3, you’re really able to see the players because you’re so close.” ....

Tokyo 2020 organizers plan to hold discussions with the International Swimming Federation (FINA) this week, a senior official said, after the federation said it was reviewing whether to hold the Olympics diving qualification event scheduled for this month.
