Centre ready to resume talks but farmer unions should first respond to govt proposal: Narendra Singh Tomar

New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday reiterated that the government is ready to resume talks with protesting farmers but first the unions should respond to its offer to put the three contentious farm laws on hold for one-and-a-half years and set up a joint committee to find solutions.
The government and unions have held 11 rounds of talks, the last being on January 22, to break the deadlock and end the farmers protest. Talks have not resumed following widespread violence during a tractor rally by protesting farmers on January 26. ....

Farm laws: Protesting Farmers, government to hold tenth round of talks today

A committee appointed by the Supreme Court to deliberate on issues related to the three new farm laws held its first meeting on January 19, 2021.

New Delhi: Farmer unions and the Central government on Wednesday held the tenth round of talks over the three farm laws during which Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar proposed to hold the implementation of the legislations for a year and a half.
The Centre also proposed to submit an affidavit in Supreme Court for suspending the three laws for a mutually-agreed period and set up a committee. ....
