AMHERST Uncertainty about where the Craig’s Place seasonal homeless shelter will operate in future years is prompting the creation of a municipal task force to examine issues surrounding homelessness in town.
Town Manager Paul Bockelman recently informed Town Council he is forming the Homeless Advisory Committee, which would be responsible for identifying suitable sites for a permanent seasonal or year-round shelter and reviewing surplus town buildings or land suitable for providing services to homeless individuals.
The idea of having the new committee, which could also make a recommendation regarding the future operation of a seasonal shelter, comes after Craig’s Place began using space at the Unitarian Meetinghouse, 121 North Pleasant St., last November. ....

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Some community organizations that serve the homeless in the community are in favor of not only a proposed shelter, but also transitional housing a special use permit will allow in Savannah.
West Savannah non profit organizations like West Savannah Community Organization have served the area for several years.
They’ve expressed their approval for a proposed homeless shelter on Augusta Avenue.
“We embrace that we will eventually work together as a neighborhood at the end of the day when everybody who has been in an uproar goes home. At the end of the day we will still live here and we will still get along with that as they build and develop,” said Marsha Buford, President of West Savannah Community Organization. ....

Police Arrest Homeless Man Suspected of Killing an Elderly Man in Venice

A transient suspected in the beating and subsequent death of a 76-year-old man in Venice was in custody Thursday, according to police.
Detectives arrested the homeless suspect, identified as 45-year-old Obie Thompson, for the fatal assault that happened Feb. 8 in the 1500 block of Abbot Kinney Boulevard, officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said.
