TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Hotel rooms like the ones at University Inn and Suites could soon be a creative solution to Tallahassee s housing shortage.
Commissioners will hear public comment Wednesday about a proposal to turn 36 University Inn & Suites units and an additional 76 units at the Days Inn on Apalachee Parkway into low-cost single-family homes.
Mayor John Dailey says the project could be an attainable option for those experiencing homelessness.
Right now in Tallahassee, we have a shortage of housing affordable housing. This is a creative way to provide people a pathway to homeownership which might not be just a single-family detached house, said Dailey. ....

HELP FOR HOMELESS-At tomorrow’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Kathryn Barger will introduce a motion, coauthored by Chair Hilda L. Solis, that looks to identify commercial real estate property across Los Angeles County that could be repurposed for critically needed temporary housing for people experiencing homelessness as well as for long term affordable housing.
As many businesses have transitioned to telework, commercial spaces are left vacant. To address the persistent housing shortage and homelessness crisis, Supervisor Barger’s motion aims to serve vulnerable residents while also supporting local businesses through innovative strategies to leverage public-private partnership. ....

South Bend to hire homeless solutions contractor, could look to county and Mishawaka for help

SOUTH BEND â After a year when St. Joseph County saw one of the stateâs largest increases in homelessness, South Bend Mayor James Mueller will soon temporarily hire someone to implement his working groupâs recommendations to address the problem.
The work will include another attempt at establishing an intake center, his deputy chief of staff told the cityâs Common Council on Monday night.
Jordan Gathers, Muellerâs point person on homelessness issues, briefed council members on recommendations that the mayorâs group came up with during weekly meetings from August through December.
There were 516 homeless people in the county on Jan. 29, according to this yearâs federally required Point in Time survey by service providers. ....
