NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â As temperatures drop to dangerous levels across Middle Tennessee, both shelters and homeless advocates are making adjustments to help people get out of the cold.
For just the second time this Winter, Metro s overflow shelter at the Nashville Fairgrounds will also be open during the day. Typically, the shelter opens at 7 p.m. and closes at 7 a.m. the following morning. Now employees will be working extra hours to ensure anyone in need has a place to escape the snow and ice. People who check in at night, are encouraged to stay through the following day. ....

Huntington Beach Wants to Crack Down on Abandoned Personal Property
In an effort to make the community safer, Huntington Beach is proposing a law that would prohibit the storage of personal property on public land.
The law would allow city officials to leave a notice at unaccompanied personal property, giving the owner 24 hours’ notice to remove or dispose of it. If the items are determined to be contaminated or pose a danger to the public, they could be disposed of immediately.
Stored personal property includes tents, bedding, medication, household items, hammocks, luggage, and more, according to a city report.
Huntington Beach Councilmember Mike Posey said the topic was introduced with the idea of public safety in mind. ....

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - Two Lawton churches and a motel teamed up to make sure 18 homeless people had safe, warm shelter from the freezing temperatures Sunday and Monday night.
Word Alive Church and Lovesick Ministries partnered with the Castle Inn and Suites for the project.
Sheridan Garcia from Word Alive posted on Facebook to ask if anyone knew people who needed shelter.
Mary Solenberg from Lovesick Ministries said their organization provides hot meals and clothes for the homeless on a weekly basis, so they knew plenty of people. ....

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) -With the potential of even colder temperatures overnight Monday, officials in Calcasieu parish have utilized final resources to make sure those less fortunate are safe.
Prior to the artic blast, there was already a growing list of concerns for the local homeless population following the pandemic and back-to-back storms.
