Acadiana s first freeze could come over the weekend, in the days that follow expect more freezes and perhaps an ice storm.
The Acadiana Regional Coalition for Homelessness and Housing expects about 300 families and individuals will need housing over the next few days. Because of the pandemic, group shelters aren t an option.
ARCH is looking at thousands of dollars to put them up in hotels, but they can t do it alone. ....

The government is providing 100,000 more homeless families with concrete houses as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s gift in Mujib Year.

The decision was finalised in a meeting to coordinate the work at the Prime Minister s Office in Dhaka on Thursday.
About 70,000 landless and homeless families across the country got their houses along with 2 decimal pieces of land under the Ashrayan-2 project on Jan 23.
The government on Thursday ordered the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and other field-level officials to complete the work to construct 50,000 more houses in the second phase by Apr 7. ....

WORK WITH SAFE THE NONPROFIT SHOW. OUR POWER PROVIDES A MOBILE SHOWER UNIT FOR THE HOMELESS WITH DANGEROUS WEATHER CONDITIONS APPROACHING THEIR KNOW MAKING SURE THE PEOPLE THEY SERVE ARE SAFE. A LOT OF THEM LIVE IN ABANDONED HOUSES OR BUILDINGS THEY CALL THOSE BANDOS THEY HAVE SHELTER, BUT THERE’S THERE O IS OPEN THERE HAVE NO ELECTRICITY. NO WAY TO STAY WARM WITH EXTREMELY COLD TEMPERATURES EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT WEEK. THE SHOW WERE POLAR LEADERS KNEW THEY NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING. NO ONE CAN SLEEP OUTSIDE WHEN IT’S BELOW FREEZING. THE TEMPERATURES ARE INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AND WE’RE TALKING ABOUT TEMPERATURES GETTING DOWN INTO THE TEENS, AND I CAN’T IMAGINE IF WE GOT WORD THAT WE DIDN’T FIND SOMEBODY AND THEY TODAY THE VOLUNTEER GROUP ....

The Carbondale Warming Center Receives $10,000 Donation

The Carbondale Warming Center received a financial boost Tuesday.
Church Women United Illinois donated ten thousand dollars to the Carbondale Warming Center.
At the beginning of the pandemic the center started staying open 24 hours and providing three meals a day to individuals staying there.
The center also helps individuals get help with medical needs and connect them to social services.
Executive Director Carmalita Cahill says this donation will help a lot of people.
“Our funding comes from the people in this community and we can’t be more grateful for that because that’s keeping small children off the street, individuals who may or may not have the ability right now to determine if they’re safe when its cold outside, their mental health doesn’t allow them to do that and we’re not one of the cities with people in our streets freezing to death and that’s something as a community we can take pride in.” ....
