MidWest Simon Community which supports homeless people in Limerick, Tipperary and Clare has received a consignment of period products from Lidl Ireland to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day. May 27th.
The donations will support women and girls affected by period poverty across the three counties.
Last month Lidll became the first retailer in the world to offer free period products to those affected by period poverty in stores nationwide.
The supermarket chain has also committed to ongoing donations of these products through a partnership with The Simon Communities of Ireland and Homeless Period Ireland. ....

The new initiative will see the retailer offer a coupon for one free box of pads or tampons per customer each month through their app, Lidl Plus.
For those who don t have a smartphone, the retailer will also make quarterly donations to The Simon Communities to ensure people among homeless communities can access products too.
Period poverty is becoming an increasingly prominent issue across Ireland, with a recent Plan International survey showing that almost half of young girls are struggling to pay for period products.
Earlier this year, Labour senator Rebecca Moynihan introduced new legislation that would make period products free in public spaces, an anticipated law that was met with much support outside of government buildings. ....

Lidl Ireland is set to become the first major retailer in the world to offer free period products in stores nationwide to women and girls across the country.
A new initiative will allow shoppers to get a free box of sanitary pads or tampons every month through the Lidl app.
The company will also donate products to Simon Community for people who don t have access to a smartphone.
Claire Hunt, founder of Homeless Period Ireland, has welcomed the move.
This is a really significant development to combat period poverty in Ireland and to ensure those most in need will have the ability to access suitable period products, she said. ....

Lidl has launched a new initiative to provide free sanitary products women affected by period poverty.
The initiative, which was created in collaboration with Homeless Period Ireland and the Simon Community, will allow shoppers to get a free box of sanitary pads or tampons every month through the Lidl app.
The Simon Community will also receive products free-of-charge to supply people who do not have access to a smartphone. ....
