Herdsmen killers: Coalition of Nigerians in Diaspora threaten to halt $23bn annual remittances, petition Buhari, NGF, others

Coalition of Nigerian in Diaspora Organisations (NIDO) drawn from Europe, Americas, Asia, Oceania and Africa have threatened to halt annual diaspora remittances worth over $23 billion into the country, in protest against the disparaging and derogatory statements made by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Idris Wase last Wednesday.
In the 4-page protest letter dated March 14, 2021, and addressed to the Speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the coalition alleged that the Deputy Speaker’s statements “vilify the whole Nigerians in diaspora and putting to doubt our citizenship, privileges and rights as Nigerians.”
Copies of the petition was also sent to President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan; Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Governor Kayode Fayemi; Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora Affairs; Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Affairs; Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Minister of Foreign Affair ....

On Tuesday, the National Assembly will resume from its Christmas vacation to attend to pressing national issues, including the outstanding bills, writes Udora Orizu
The two chambers of the National Assembly, which have been on Christmas break since December 22 2020, will resume plenary on Tuesday, February 9 for the commencement of the 2021 legislative calendar.
The lawmakers, who were initially billed to resume plenary on Tuesday, January 26th postponed their resumption by two weeks to enable federal lawmakers belonging to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) participate in the revalidation of their membership of the party with effect from January 25, 2021.
Upon resumption, the Ninth Assembly members are expected to continue their legislative duties and tend to crucial bills, which they have promised to prioritise in their legislative agenda. ....

Three communities in Oluyole Federal Constituency of Oyo State; Orelope Isale-Alfa; Papa Eleye and Irepodun, Abey Technical, Liberty Academy Road have gotten the donation of 300KVA transformers each to boost power supply to the communities.
The transformers which are already installed were facilitated by a member of the House of Representatives, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, as part of her commitment on electrification and in fulfilment of her vow that Oluyole constituency would witness more developments from the Federal Government.
Akande-Sadipe, who chairs the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs said, “in fulfilment of my commitment to my constituency, the good people of Orelope Isale-Afla General Community, Papa Eleye and Irepodun, Abey Technical, Liberty Academy Road Communities joined the transformer beneficiary list, by taking delivery ....
