Various roads in Stanway, Birch and Copford are shutting because of the popular 10km run. The roads that are closing include the B1022, Beckingham Hall Road, Maldon Road, Birch Road, Easthorpe Road, Rectory Road, Fountain Lane, Hardy’s Green, Maldon Road and Rectory Road. A temporary one-way system will also come into force on part of the B1022, from its junction with Warren Lane to Colchester Zoo. The restrictions will apply on Sunday. Alternative routes will apply. Drivers should note that a new one-way system is soon coming into operation in St Nicholas Street, in Colchester town centre. The restriction will apply from its junction with Culver Street East and Long Wyre Street to its junction with High Street. ....
WHERE did you learn to swim? Our parks feature a couple of weeks ago sparked a few conversations regarding places to cool off over the summer in Worcester. This week, we’ve dug out a few images of places where local people either learnt to swim, or simply enjoyed dipping their toes! The first corporation swimming baths for the city were based down on the river at the south end of Pitchcroft in two old barges, as recalled by Max Sinclair in a conversation a few years ago: “They were two of the old Severn Trows that had been opened up and demasted, and placed side by side and joined together to make a floating trough, with holes at each end so the river flowed in and flowed out. But you were safe inside the barge.” ....
HEAVY duty fencing has been installed at a popular beauty spot to keep out nuisance biker gangs which have plagued the area. However, residents have raised concerns about the new fencing, along Cherry Tree Lane at the entrance to Friday Woods, as a deer had to be rescued after becoming trapped. The muntjac got caught in the wire whilst trying to enter the woods from Cherry Tree Lane. Jackie Stephens said: “My neighbour freed a muntjac caught halfway through the wire. “It was crying with fear and panic and he managed to push it fully through. “Its mate was barking on the other side of the lane as it couldn’t join it. ....
