Gov. Kemp, public health commissioner give vaccine update
The governor and DPH Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey were at Emory s Woodruff Health Sciences Center this afternoon.

ATLANTA Gov. Brian Kemp and Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey provided an update Tuesday on distributing the COVID-19 vaccine in the state.
The governor and Dr. Toomey delivered remarks from the Woodruff Health Sciences Center at Emory University.
Others on hand were include Dr. Jonathan Lewin, the CEO of the Emory Healthcare system and Dr. Nadine Rouphael of the Emory Vaccine Center.
This comes as the now-approved Moderna vaccine begins making its way throughout Georgia, bolstering the supplies of Pfizer vaccine that have already been distributed. ....

Beck appointed to named chairmanship
Allen D. Beck, director and chair of Emory Eye Center, has been appointed the F. Phinizy Calhoun, Sr. Chair in Ophthalmology. Beck joined the glaucoma section of Emory Eye Center in 1994 and was named director of glaucoma services in 1999. He was named interim director and chair of Emory Eye Center in 2016 and was appointed chair in 2019.
Eckert honored for recent book on West Germany
Astrid M. Eckert’s new book “West Germany and the Iron Curtain: Environment, Economy and Culture in the Borderlands” has won several recent honors. These include the Hans Rosenberg Book Prize, awarded by the Central European History Society for the best book in the field published by a North American resident in 2019; the 2020 German Academic Exchange Service/German Studies Association (DAAD/GSA) Book Prize for the best book in history or social sciences; and the 2020 Smith Award by the European History Section of the Southern Historical Assoc ....

Jonathan Lewin named a 2020 'Most Admired CEO' by Atlanta Business Chronicle

ATLANTA – Jonathan S. Lewin, MD, CEO and chairman of the board of Emory Healthcare, has been named a 2020 “Most Admired CEO” in Atlanta by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
The designation recognizes 40 top executives from 21 industry categories who have demonstrated strong leadership, integrity, forward-thinking vision and commitment to innovation in their fields. Lewin was one of two CEO honorees recognized by the Atlanta Business Chronicle in the Healthcare Category.
“Atlanta’s landscape features so many extraordinary CEOs and I am humbled and honored to receive this recognition,” says Lewin. “Making the transition from a physician-scientist to administrative roles has led me from focusing on patient care and research in my lab to equipping, enabling and encouraging others to achieve larger team successes as a CEO.
