According to district officials, the incident happened last Thursday during recess at South Woods Middle School. News 12 is told the attack targeted an Asian sixth grader. In a Facebook post written by the alleged victim s parent, it says a group of sixth graders said racist phrases to their son, including Go back to your country, COVID starter and white lives matter, too. People close to the family say they re too distraught to speak publicly about the incident, but parents voiced their concerns at a school board meeting Monday night.

(Patch Graphic) SYOSSET, NY The Syosset School District said it is investigating multiple bias incidents at South Woods Middle School that occurred between students. According to Superintendent Dr. Thomas Rogers, the district has been investigating the incidents for the last five days. Rogers said the district didn t release information about the incidents earlier because it didn t want to compromise the testimony of students who witnessed the incidents. At this point, the investigation has progressed to a stage where we can share that there were multiple incidents where different students verbally expressed different types of bias and at least one of those incidents became physical, Rogers said in a statement.

School district officials were concerned about the spike in cases and quarantines among students and staff, according to a message sent Wednesday to parents. When Wednesday morning brought more cases, students were moved out of the seventh-grade wing to begin cleaning and disinfecting. These cases significantly impact the school s ability to function in a safe and effective manner, said the message, attributed to Superintendent Mike Cummings and COVID-19 Health and Safety Compliance Liaison Angelus Papageorge.
