Man (60) jailed for two years for threatening to shoot CAB officer


A 60-year-old man who threatened to shoot a Criminal Asset Bureau (CAB) officer during an investigation has been sentenced to two years in prison with the final year suspended.
Andrew Moorehouse, of 1 Drumgoold Villas, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, came before Judge Cormac Quinn at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court on Tuesday having pleaded guilty to two charges of threatening a CAB official on May 31, 2019, at the agency s Harcourt Square premises in Dublin. He also pleaded guilty to threatening a CAB official on July 11, 2019.
Prosecuting Counsel, Ms Sinead Gleeson told the court of CAB officers investigating organised crime locally, in which they targeted one criminal group across the district. ....

A man found with almost €1 million in a bag of onions inside his campervan - crime cash that was destined for the Kinahan Cartel - will be returned to jail after the Court of Appeal this Thursday increased his sentence by a year.
The court heard that after Bernard Joyce was cautioned by gardaí, he made no comment other than indicating that he liked onions .
The increase in sentence came after the three judges agreed with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that Joyce s three-year sentence was unduly lenient. ....

A drug mule who became caught up with a criminal gang and took the opportunity to make easy money has been sent to jail after the Court of Appeal this Thursday found his wholly suspended sentence too lenient.
Ciaran Long (37) of Barntown, Co Wexford, pleaded guilty at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court to possessing €201,000, which were the proceeds of criminal conduct, at the same address, on March 27, 2017, under the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act 2010. 
The Director of Public Prosecution s successfully sought a review of the man’s sentence on grounds that it was “unduly lenient” and Long must hand himself in to gardaí in two weeks time.  ....

A man found with almost €1m in a bag of onions inside his camper van – crime cash that was destined for the Kinahan cartel – will be returned to jail after the Court of Appeal today increased his sentence by a year.
The court heard that after Bernard Joyce was cautioned by gardaí, he made no comment other than indicating that he “liked onions”.
The increase in sentence came after the three judges agreed with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that Joyce s three-year sentence was unduly lenient.
The 45-year-old of Newtown, Beauparc, Slane, Co. Meath, pleaded guilty at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court to possessing €911,600, which was the proceeds of criminal conduct, at Arnestown, Foulksmills, Co Wexford, on September 22, 2018, under the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act 2010. ....

Garda Stephen Burke gave evidence that detectives were carrying out a search of the premises at Foulksmills when they met with a lady, who indicated she was in difficulty with a newborn baby along with another child present at the time.
Gda Burke said a camper van was parked at the front of the premises and while gardai were dealing with the search of the premises, the camper van started up, taking off at speed down the driveway. Gardai gave chase around the local roads and the camper van then stopped.
Gardai spoke to Joyce and asked why he was in Wexford and he said that he was there to buy a boat. His teenage son, who was aged 13, was present at the time. ....
