COVID-19 is airborne. What do we do now?

A year after the pandemic, the World Health Organization updated its health advisory last April, stating that COVID-19 may be acquired through airborne transmission. This is in addition to the droplet transmission, which was previously the widely recognized mode of spreading the virus.
But what does this new discovery mean entail? Panahon TV sought the advice ofDr. Rontgene Solante, chairman of the Adult Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Department at the San Lazaro Hospital, and a member of the Vaccine Expert Panel of the Department of Science and Technology.

Droplet vs Airborne Transmission
Dr. Solante mentioned that the COVID-19 virus is expelled through coughing, sneezing, or talking. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) adds to this list by stating that “People release respiratory fluids during exhalation (e.g., quiet breathing, speaking, singing, exercise, coughing, sneezing) in the form of droplets across a spectrum of sizes. Gov't urged: Tighten border control, tap more labs to sequence COVID-19 variants

endIndex:
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 17) The Philippines must continue to tighten its borders and consider tapping more laboratories that could conduct genome sequencing to control the transmission of the new variants of COVID-19, an infectious disease expert said Monday.
Dr. Rontgene Solante, head of San Lazaro Hospital-Adult Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine department, told CNN Philippines The Source on Monday that the government must act as if most COVID-19 cases in the country are already variant-driven, after listing at least 12 cases of the double-mutant variant first detected in India.
I m not surprised that anybody coming from other countries will be bringing in this variant, whether it’s India or any other variants of concern. That’s the reason why border control is really important at this point in time, Solante said. ....

IT TOOK Nikko Lae D. Abdon, 30, nearly a week to find medicines for her 66-year-old uncle, who got admitted in an intensive care unit room at the San Lazaro Hospital in the Philippine capital.
The drug tocilizumab, which is mainly used to treat arthritis, worked wonders to alleviate his pain after he was diagnosed with a severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Doctors also gave him remdesivir, an anti-viral drug originally made to treat hepatitis C.
“We were grateful that the doctors were able to save him,” Ms. Abdon, who works as a nurse at the hospital, said in mixed English and Filipino by telephone. “I didn’t like how we really struggled to find the medicines.” ....
