Vail Jazz Foundation's new Executive Director Amanda Blevins hopes to help jazz 'wash away the dust of everyday life'

The Vail Jazz Foundation, celebrating 27 years of bringing jazz to the valley, announced that Director of Development Amanda Blevins will be elevated to the executive director role effective May 1. The role has been filled by founder and Artistic Director Howard Stone since April 6, 2020.
“It’s been a tough year for everyone, and Amanda’s leadership, dedication and forward-thinking has enabled this organization to remain healthy,” said Garret Davies, vice chair of the board, in the announcement. “I could think of no better person to run this organization.”
Blevins joined Vail Jazz in 2018, coming to the organization with experience in business development and deep roots in the Vail Valley. Blevins will be responsible for leading Vail Jazz in its mission of perpetuating jazz through the presentation of jazz performances and educational programs. ....

When you think of some of history’s greatest jazz trumpeters Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis you might wonder: Was their ascension to greatness destined to be? Would jazz sound different today if these trailblazers had never picked up a trumpet in the first place?
For Vail Jazz Workshop alumnus Curtis Taylor, fate seems to have played at least a supporting role in his development as one of his generation’s leading jazz trumpeters. Taylor was the trumpet chair on acclaimed vocalist Gregory Porter’s Grammy-winning album “Liquid Spirit” in 2014 and more recently joined in recording the soundtrack to a documentary about Porter, “Don’t Forget Your Music.” Taylor has also performed, recorded and toured worldwide with the bands of saxophonist James ....

Vail Trailblazer award honors the Hanlons

Sally and Bill Hanlon have spent more than 50 years serving as Vail’s ambassadors in a way that helped define the community as a world class ski town and showed a unique and caring style to welcoming guests and new community members to town.
The Hanlons have been selected as recipients of the 2021 Vail Trailblazer Award, presented by the Vail Town Council. The annual Vail Trailblazer Award honors those who contribute their time and talent to make Vail a great resort community.
The Hanlons will be recognized at the March 16 evening Vail Town Council meeting with a mayor’s proclamation honoring their significant contributions. Recognition will also take place during the town of Vail Annual Community Meeting, which will be produced as a virtual meeting and will be aired March 30 on the town’s Facebook page as well as on High Five Access Media ....
