CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Members of Mexican and Hispanic communities at large gathered Wednesday in front of the Club Azteca building to protest its potential demolition.
Effort to save beloved building
“We are here, we’re a part of this city, and you’ll have to deal with us,” Eduardo Rodriguez, executive director of the Comité Mexicano de Cleveland (Cleveland Mexican Committee) said.
The club was formed in the 1920s as a refuge for Mexican immigrants who faced discrimination. Its members began to meet in the basement of 5602 Detroit Ave. The organization eventually bought the property in the 1950s. ....

CLEVELAND â Executive Director of Hola Ohio, Veronica Dahlberg, says she is liking what she s seeing so far from the Biden administration, specifically the decision to preserve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The program protects about 800,000 people, who came to the United States as children, from being deported. However, Dahlberg says since DACA has not truly provided stable reassurance since it was introduced in 2012.
âHe s saying that for at least the next four years, we re going to make sure that you don t have to worry about this program,â she said. ....
