Pete's Posse, 'Ya Know, Ya Never Know'

Ya Never Know
(Self-released, CD, digital, flash drive)
Contra dancing is a popular pastime in the Green Mountains. And yet, unless you know to look for it, it s almost completely invisible. There s no dress code, no teenagers walking around Burlington blasting fiddle reels on their phone speakers. Pre-pandemic, its fans convened at town halls and barns, not clubs and bars. If not for the packed parking lots at rural granges, you d hardly know they were there.
So if you ve never heard of Pete s Posse, it ain t necessarily your fault. The multigenerational trad roots power trio is built around the tutelage of master fiddler and local legend Pete Sutherland. A musician, educator and prolific producer, Sutherland s résumé spans decades of accomplishments and acclaim. He s also mentored some dynamite talent over the years, including multi-instrumentalists Tristan Henderson and Oliver Scanlon, who round out his handpicked Posse. ....

2020 in the performing arts: A virtual resurrection from the dead

For the performing arts in Vermont, 2020 was the year that wasn’t. Yet the COVID-19 pandemic revealed many arts organizations’ ability to redefine themselves — and for others it meant a complete shutdown.
January began optimistically with a splendid performance by the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Anne Decker, of Menotti’s Christmas opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at City Hall Arts Center. The Spice on Snow traditional music festival celebrated its 10th year, also in the capital.
Vermont Stage, the Burlington professional theater, mounted excellent productions of “Relativity,” by Mark St. Germain — in which Ron Crawford became Albert Einstein — and “Marie and Rosetta,” the rockin’ gospel of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. ....

Marianne Goodson
On December 10, 2020, Marianne J. Goodson, 91, departed this world peacefully of natural causes, at home, surrounded by soft music, love and family. Widely known as a gracious hostess of renowned parties and elaborate picnics, she was the light of any gathering. Marianne filled her home with warmth, wonderful food and those she cherished. Predeceased in 2014 by her beloved husband of 58 years, William Bill Goodson, Marianne is survived by children Gregg (LeeLee) Goodson, Derek (Sandra) Goodson and Lynne (Danforth) Cardozo, as well as grandchildren Matthew Goodson and Kelsey Goodson (Tyler) Dunn.

VSO's 'Music for Days Like This' | Department of Music | The University of Vermont

From
When the Vermont Symphony Orchestra presents its second “Music for Days Like This,” online at
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, it will feature some unlikely ensembles, including VSO percussionists
D. Thomas Toner and Nicola Cannizzaro.
“Seeing Tom and Nick play a percussion duo is a whole different world than seeing them play the bass drum, the triangle and maybe a cymbal in the symphony,” explains
Matt LaRocca, composer and the VSO’s creative projects chairman, who curates the VSO’s online programming.
If that weren’t unusual enough, VSO cellists John Dunlop, Perri Morris, Bonnie Klimowski and Dieuwke Davydov will join the percussionists in works ranging from a commissioned world premiere to well-known music by Arvo Pärt and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. ....
