During the Feb. 16 Barstow City Council meeting, which was held via Zoom, 18 public comments went unheard by those watching online when they were not read into the record.
City Attorney Matthew Summers announced on Jan. 19 when 29 public comments went unheard that comments would not be read aloud into the record during meetings, saying state law does not require emailed public comments to be read aloud.
“Rather, the requirement is that the emails be provided to the Council and that has been done,” said Summers, who did not cite the referenced state law. ....

Victor Valley Transit Authority unveils Umo Mobility App and Pass for High Desert riders

The Victor Valley Transit Authority on Wednesday announced its adoption of the Umo Mobility App and Pass to help enhance mobility for its passengers.
Umo simplifies travel by integrating all of its service area transportation options from VVTA fixed-route buses to ride shares, according to the Hesperia-based VVTA.
The Umo App includes trip-planning and fare payment capabilities, and the Umo Pass is an account-based fare collection platform that reduces the cost burden associated with traditional fare collection.
The pass allows riders to pay through various touchless options, including electronic payment and a method for those who prefer cash payments, VVTA officials said. ....

Cubic Announces Launch of Its Integrated Transit Platform
A new transit mobility platform developed by Cubic is designed to be used by transit agencies of any size, enabling riders to pay fares and plan trips across public and private modes.

Transit systems serving tiny towns to mega cities are integrating fare payment, trip planning, bus tracking and more onto one platform.
Umo is but one of the latest technology platforms to integrate a suite of “mobility-as-a-service” (MaaS) offerings into one rider-friendly app.
“What’s really exciting about Umo, for us, is it helps our clients out, with no more fumbling for paper passes, or transfers, or coins anymore,” said Chris Ackerman, marketing manager and public information officer for the Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA). The agency serves a roughly 1,000-square-mile region of the high desert in Southern California and will launch the Umo platform this week. ....
