The Wellington City Council wants to turn our Town Belt into an amusement park so that the city can be “revitalised.” If the council is successful, there will be nothing stopping a music festival, a beer festival, and a host of “vibrant” activities attacking our city’s most precious natural environment, in pursuit of the mighty dollar.
The City Council boasts that reserves and Town Belt sites would become “energised public spaces”, “driving people into the city”, and “would be positive for the local economy and hospitality industry”. In other words, it wants to turn the Town Belt and reserves and many others into profit making land. ....

Wellington City Council is reviewing the policies that
set the framework for managing trading and event activities
in public places – and is inviting the public to have
their say.
Currently there are two policies that
govern these activities and the Council is proposing to
integrate both into one Trading and Events in Public Places
Policy.
The new combined draft policy will be much
broader in scope and set out the rules and guidance on how
activities on all public spaces are managed.

Dame Susan Devoy moves to Wellington to manage squash club, scrub toilets


It was initially put on a month-by-month lease but, in 2020, Squash NZ baulked at the projected cost of repairs and decided it would be demolished.
Enter Gary Murdoch, a man in his 70s who played his first game of squash in the Kelburn club in 1969, the start of a lifelong love of the sport. Passionate about the club, he and others began a drive to save it.
