DART Silver Line construction continues with Josey Lane Bridge in Carrollton

DART
Work continues on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Silver Line Regional Rail project with the start of construction on the Josey Lane bridge in Carrollton.

For the initial bridge construction, a large diameter hole is drilled into the ground and filled with steel rebar and concrete for each bridge pier. With depths ranging from 42′ to 49′, each hole is drilled into the bedrock for strength and stability. With a diameter of 54″, each pier footer is filled with up to 30 cubic yards of concrete, which is over 6,000 gallons.

The Silver Line Regional Rail Project’s primary purpose is to provide passenger rail connections and service that will improve mobility, accessibility and system linkages to major employment, population and activity centers in the northern part of the DART Service Area. ....

In September, 50 1,500-foot-long rail segments were delivered for DART’s 26-mile Silver Line Regional Rail Project under construction between Plano, Texas, and DFW Airport. Steel Dynamics, Inc. in Columbia City, Ind., shipped them by train to Richardson. The new alignment is slated for revenue service in 2023.

Construction begins for Silver Line

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Archer Western Herzog (AWH) commemorated construction of the future Silver Line Regional Rail project with a First Concrete Ceremony on Wednesday.
The event took place near the intersection of Preston Road and the Keller Springs Road, a mile northeast of the future Knoll Trail Station in Dallas.
The ceremony included a long-held tradition by the Walsh Group, parent company of AWH, of placing Miraculous Medals in a projectâs first concrete pour. A Walsh Group institution for more than six decades, the Miraculous Medal is an oval-shaped depiction of Mary according to Saint Catherine Laboureâs vision. The gesture of placing Miraculous Medals symbolizes an inspiration to successfully complete the job safely and to make it as miraculous as the Medal itself. ....

DART Pours First Concrete for Silver Line Rail Project

Dallas Area Rapid Transit is celebrating the first official pour of concrete for the future Silver Line Regional Rail with a ceremony on Wednesday.
The ceremony took place at the intersection of Preston Road and the Keller Springs Road in Dallas.
The 26-mile Silver Line Regional Rail Project is under construction between DFW Airport, Grapevine, Coppell, Dallas, Carrollton, Addison, Richardson and Plano, and it includes 10 new stations.
