Fall River area government officials embrace lifting of COVID limits

FALL RIVER Play ball!
That’s what Fall River City Council President Cliff Ponte said, in a manner speaking, when asked if social distancing restrictions will be lifted for council meetings starting June 8.

Baker also announced that the state of emergency in Massachusetts, which took effect in March 2020, will end on June 15.
The governor in April had announced that restrictions would be lifted on Aug. 1, but improving coronavirus health statistics convinced him to push the date up by two months. ....

It keeps me safe : At Westport clinic, kids hope COVID vaccine means a more normal summer
Kerri Tallman, Standard-Times
WESTPORT A small pinch in the arm didn t keep kids from taking the first step in returning to a normal summer.
Wesport Town Hall Annex distributed vaccines to all ages at a clinic Thursday.
Brennan Gaisford, 12, received his vaccine because he can t wait to go back to summer sports camps and make new friends. An avid Tampa Bay fan for both baseball and basketball, Gaisford is also looking forward to traveling to Hawaii with his family later this year.
With eligibility now open to ages 12 through 15 for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, young students may be the last in the family to receive the vaccine. For Gaisford, his grandparents and parents were waiting with bated breath for him to finally receive his dose so they could all be safe. ....

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is currently accepting donations for the Westport Warm-Up Fund  to help residents in need to heat their homes this winter.
According to Human Services Finance Manager Susan Stefenson, the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for additional assistance for many Westport households.
“This winter will be particularly challenging for households facing unstable employment, food insecurity, and financial vulnerability,” said Stefenson. “Last season, community donations helped over 250 residents to warm their homes during a relatively mild winter. Unfortunately, the number of households in need is growing due to the pandemic.”  ....
