A plan to open a new Newton Rigg College has been unveiled by campaigners looking to rebuild the future of land-based education in Cumbria.
Newton Rigg Ltd has launched an urgent action plan which seeks to build a new college to open in 2024 or 2025.
The community organisation is calling for support, starting with training courses this year and the introduction of apprenticeships in 2022.
This would lead up to the opening of a new and independent Cumbrian Newton Rigg College two to three years after. ....

Plans to open a new Newton Rigg College in Cumbria have been revealed.
It is hoped the new independent college will start welcoming its first students in September 2025.
Behind the scheme is community organisation Newton Rigg Ltd, which has launched an urgent action plan to rebuild land-based education in the county.
Operators of the Newton Rigg campus, Askham Bryan, announced that it was pulling out of Cumbria and shutting the facility’s doors.
Its chief executive has been grilled by MPs over the decision and we have launched a petition to save land-based education in the county. ....

A PLAN to open a new Newton Rigg College in Cumbria has been launched.
Community organisation Newton Rigg Ltd is calling for support as it launches its urgent action plan to rebuild the future of land-based education in the county.
It proposes to start with land-based training courses this year, followed by the introduction of apprenticeships by 2022 and the opening of a new, independent Cumbrian Newton Rigg College in 2024/25.
In February, efforts to save the college failed and it was announced that the 125-year-old college would close.
NRL chairman, Professor Andy Cobb, said compromise was not an option.
He said:“Rebuilding land-based education will not be an easy journey in light of the current challenges facing education, but we are making it possible. ....
