Mysterious Fast Radio Burst From a Cluster of Old Stars is a Puzzler

It’s often said about science that the more we learn, the less we know. That is certainly true when it comes to fast radio bursts – these millisecond pulses have been difficult to detect, challenging to track, nearly impossible to predict and frustrating to explain. Yet our knowledge of them continues to grow as more. Read more » ....

Hubble Tracks Down Location of Mysterious Fast Radio Bursts From Intergalactic Space

While astronomers are anxiously awaiting the deployment of the joint NASA–ESA–CSA James Webb Space Telescope – with its state-of-the-art infrared resolution and sensitivity – the Hubble telescope is not going down with a whimper. In a telescopic “Hold my beer and watch this” moment, NASA announced that astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope tracked five of those mysterious fast radio bursts (FRBs) to the spiral arms of five distant galaxies, helped rule out some probable causes and may have proved where they actually come from. You go, Hubble!
“A galaxy’s spiral arms trace the distribution of young, massive stars. However, the Hubble images reveal that the FRBs found near the spiral arms do not come from the very brightest regions, which blaze with the light from hefty stars. The images help support a picture that the FRBs likely do not originate from the youngest, most massive stars.” ....

Scientists Come Up With More Credible Theories On Mysterious Fast Radio Burst
Two scientists groups have been tasked with the mission to uncover the mysteries of the fast radio bust discovered last year. Here are the details.

In 2007, astronomers had discovered some mysterious signals, named fast radio burst (FRB), a phenomenon that they cannot yet explain. According to EarthSky, these bursts are short but strong. Although lasting .001 of a second long, the energy it radiates in that millisecond is stronger than what Sun puts out in three days. In April 2020, the fast radio burst repeated three times, once in January, following with July and then November. Currently, two scientist teams have been tasked with the mission to study the source of the FRB. Here is what has been discovered till now. ....
