Friends of Huntly Park celebrate protected status


A GREEN space in East Renfrewshire has been given protected status after years of campaigning by the community.
Friends of Huntly Park (FoHP) was set up in 2017 in a bid to secure Fields In Trust protection for the Giffnock site.
Now a motion has been passed by East Renfrewshire Council to protect the park from future development.
It comes four years after Advance Construction submitted controversial plans for a £112million housing development at Braidbar Quarry, near Huntly Park.
Those proposals left some local residents fearing new housing would have a “major impact” on the area’s wildlife, which includes badgers and bats. ....

Friends of Huntly Park delighted after council agree to apply for Fields in Trust protection


FRIENDS of Huntly Park have shared their “delight” after councillors unanimously approved a motion to secure Fields in Trust protection for the much-loved greenspace.
The Giffnock community group have previously been concerned due to the threat of houses being built on the site.
For around four years, Friends of Huntly Park (FoHP) have been working with their membership, which has grown to around 1000, to protect and promote the park in ways that ensures its continued use.
Their aim when starting up was to secure Fields in Trust status for the park. East Renfrewshire councillors have now approved a motion for officers to secure this. ....
