STOL Drag Racing comes to Nebraska

The event goes on until May 1, times trials for the competitors go through Friday.
On Saturday, the top competitors will be racing in the finals and the public is invited to attend every day of the event.
Pilots are coming from across the country including Washington state, Oregon, Missouri, and Texas. Steve Henry, who is a competitor from Idaho, says there s one thing he s excited about in particular.
There s a lot of new people that haven t done it before. I m just excited to see that, said Steve Henry.
This is the first time a STOL Drag racing event has been held in the state of Nebraska, and airport officials say it s very exciting to be the first community to host an event like this in the state. ....

One of Nebraskaâs most frightening weather disasters struck on Oct. 3, 2013. A set of tornadoes rampaged across the stateâs northeast region, obliterating homes and businesses. One twisterâs fury intensified to EF-4 status, unleashing winds that lashed out at 170 mph.
No one was killed, but people suffered injuries, and property damage was extensive. The town of Wayne suffered an especially devastating blow from the EF-4. At the Wayne Municipal Airport, a new terminal building and hangar were only days away from opening, but the tornado showed no mercy. It blasted the entire complex. Winds destroyed or heavily damaged six hangars, an office building and 15 private planes. The airportâs rotating beacon was left a shambles. So was an important weather observation station. ....
