Staff and submitted information The Van Wert Soil & Water Conservation District encourages local residents to think about their personal responsibility to be a good steward of natural resources during its annual Stewardship Week celebration. The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) has proclaimed April 25-May 2 as Stewardship Week, marking the 66th year for the national event. The 2021 Stewardship Week is themed “Healthy Forests = Healthy Communities,” encouraging citizens, schools and communities to develop and maintain habitat areas using good conservation practices. The Van Wert SWCD was formed to assist people in Van Wert County to protect and conserve the natural resources for all residents by providing technical, educational, and financial assistance. VW independent/submitted information The Van Wert Soil and Water Conservation District is offering one $500 scholarship to a student studying agriculture, natural resources or closely related fields at any Ohio college or university during the 2020/2021 academic year. Recipients of the scholarship need to have completed their freshman year in college and must be a Van Wert County resident. Scholarship applications must be received at the Soil and Water Conservation District by May 7 . The Scholarship Committee of the Soil and Water Conservation District will review the applications and announce recipients in June. SWCD seeking posters for contest SWCD VAN WERT Calling local young artists in grades K through 12! It’s time to break out the paint, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, stickers, and paper for the Van Wert Soil and Water Conservation District poster contest. The contest is open to all Van Wert County students. The creation may not be traced from other artists’ work or from photographs. Each entry must have the completed form signed by the parent or guardian attached to the back of the poster. This form can be downloaded from the SWCD website at www.vanwertswcd.org on the education page. ....
