Certain roads in Hay-on-Wye are closed to vehicles during the coronavirus pandemic to help people socially distance. Hay-on-Wye Town Council said all closures will be lifted once the Welsh Government ends all restrictions. Mayor Trudy Stedman said in a meeting on April 12 that the town council would ultimately be responsible for raising and lowering the new barriers, despite Powys County Council paying for and installing them. Cllr Josh Boyd-Green said Powys County Council had previously been responsible for opening and closing roads in the town every day. Cllr Stedman added some business owners in the town feared the barriers, which are only meant to be used during the coronavirus pandemic to give road space to pedestrians, would be permanent due to the cost. ....

A TOWN on the Herefordshire border which has already lost all of its banks is about to lose its post office as well. Hay-on-Wye was left without a bank after Barclays closed the last branch in the town in 2018, with people able to make transactions at the post office. But now the post office in High Town is expected to close by the end of June. Steve Like, whose family has run the post office for more than 60 years, said he has tried without success to sell the business as a going concerns over the last five years. He apologised for leaving the town in the position where it does not have any banks or a post office, but he has handed in his resignation. ....

Kathryn, 41 and from Brockworth, It s something you see all the time now. There s always poo bags hung on a fence or on a bush. It s definitely increased since lockdown. More walkers around our field and a lot more poo bags because of it. To think that the people that are doing it are dog owners so you d think they d be animal lovers, yet they don t give a toss about the animals in the field that could ingest it. I don t know if its just laziness or they put it there to remind themselves to throw it away on the way back. ....
