Behind bars — the paedophiles whose crimes shocked the Isle of Wight

Brookes, of East Cowes, was already a convicted offender, having uploaded a video of himself abusing a 12-year-old girl to the internet for money. He was jailed for a year for that offence.
He had eight previous offences against children and was convicted again following a sting by paedophile hunters.
He was convicted of four counts of attempting to cause a girl to engage in sexual activity and one count of attempted communication with a child.

Domestic abuse on Isle of Wight on rise, latest figures show | Isle of Wight County Press

Domestic abuse is rising on the Isle of Wight.
DOMESTIC abuse incidents are rising on the Isle of Wight.
Figures published by the Isle of Wight Community Safety Partnership (CSP) show 1,786 incidents of domestic violence and abuse in 2019/20, an increase of 193 cases on the previous year.
However, the CSP which is made of six public bodies, including the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire Constabulary said it was difficult to measure domestic violence cases due to the complex nature of the issues and the awareness that many cases of such abuse are not reported.
It also said there are no definitive figures for the scale of the problem on the Island because, on average, a victim will sustain around 50 instances of abuse, which can be physical, psychological, sexual, financial or emotional, before they report it to the police. ....

It Wasn t Just Young People - Anti Social COVID-19 Behaviour
By Louise Hill - LDR Reporter
It was not just young people who broke Covid lockdown rules, say public officials.
At a meeting of the Isle of Wight’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP), public bodies who work together to tackle, prevent and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, were asked what was being done to prevent young people from causing anti-social issues, crime and large gatherings during lockdown.
Chair of the CSP, Amanda Gregory, said youth interventions have still been undertaken and providers have had to be creative about how that was delivered but it was not always young people breaking the lockdown rules and causing issues despite them very often getting the blame. ....
