Upgrade works at Ross Park in Lennox Head and Shaws Bay in Ballina have been put on hold due to separate discoveries. At the latest council meeting, on April 22, Councillor Sharon Cadwallader asked Matthew Wood, council’s director of Planning and Environmental Health Division, about the future of the projects. She asked why $150,000 of expenditure at Ross Park was delayed to next financial year. “Am I right to assume that this is Aboriginal cultural heritage hold ups?” she asked. ....

Date Time North Wall Path Works: Ballina Shire The North Wall shared path from Shaws Bay to the Ballina Marine Rescue Tower will be closed from Monday 3 May to Friday 7 May for pathway maintenance. Access to the Shaws Bay carpark alongside the Shaws Bay Holiday Park and Gawandii Beach will not be affected. Access will not be affected to the eastern section of the North Wall from the Marine Rescue Tower to the Richmond River entrance. The public are encouraged to use the pathway along Compton and Fenwick Drives and Pop Denison Park as an alternate route to access the eastern section of North Wall, starting from the Marine RescueTower. ....

One of the outcomes of the dredging works at Shaws Bay was the creation of a new sandy beach in Pop Denison Reserve. While staff at Ballina Shire Council call it East Beach, it doesn t have an official name, and may never get one. But because everyone loves a good nickname, we decided to ask locals what it should be called. Of course, the jokers came out in full force on our Facebook page and suggested names such as Shark Beach, Sea Lice Cove, Midgies Bite Beach, Stingray Beach, Kevin, South Byron Bay, Balna Beach (after the popular Instagram page), Dredgebay Beach and Shore Bay. ....
