Hartwellville didn t have much to begin with, except for a school and post office. It was mainly a postal station and became the first to go.
Newburg first settled by Hosea Baker in 1833, was named after Newburgh-on-the Hudson, New York, the hometown of another early settler, Dr. Nicholas Harder. It showed some promise with a mill along the Shiawassee River and a good amount of shops. Today it s mostly residences. ....

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY - A man has launched a campaign to raise awareness, defend his neighbor’s property rights and prevent the construction of a possible new solar farm situated between Lennon and New Lothrop.
With work underway on one project, Ranger Power has taken interest in expanding its solar farms, exploring new areas north of the current construction site in Shiawassee County and toward the more populous area of New Lothrop.
“I told them, take your great employees and your great company and go away, it ain’t going to happen here, OK?” Rex Wheeler, founder and CEO of Wheeler Trucking, told MLive-The Flint Journal. “I’m very determined, but I’m respectful.” ....

ANTRIM TWP, MI Police are investigating a fatal crash in Shiawassee County.
About 7:20 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, Michigan State Police troopers from the Flint Post responded to a reported single-vehicle crash on Bath Road near Bancroft Road in Antrim Township.
Troopers arrived to find the 51-year-old driver and lone occupant deceased.
The driver, identified by police as Curtis D. Lewis of Perry, was traveling west on Bath Road when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a tree, police said. ....
