COLUMBUS (COLUMBUS BUSINESS FIRST) The redevelopment of the Schumacher Place Giant Eagle, a project that has earned vocal pushback from its neighbors, has gotten the city’s official sign-off.
Monday night, Columbus City Council granted the developer, Pizutti Cos., a variance allowing for ground-floor townhouse-style residential units on the site and rezoned the property.
The legislation passed by council on Monday permits the construction of a mixed-use building at 280 E. Whittier St., which will contain 8,250-square-feet of retail uses and 262 residential units. The development will also be served by a 262-space garage and 17 on-street parking spaces, in a terraced building that rises ....

Pizzuti's plans for apartments near German Village will change

The controversial apartment development planned for the Giant Eagle site near German Village is going back to the drawing board for revisions after a city panel questioned the project s height and density.
The Columbus Development Commission voted this month to table a rezoning request. The Pizzuti Companies want to build a 263-unit apartment complex at 280 E. Whittier St., in the heart of a densely populated Schumacher Place neighborhood. The site abuts German Village.
Please lower the height, stop the massing, said Brenda Gischel, who leads the Schumacher Place Civic Association.
They clearly think that the project is too large for the property ....
