The results of the survey were overwhelmingly clear: 97.7 per cent of respondents are in favour of creating a new station at Beighton on the old station site, and 85.7 per cent of respondents are also in favour of establishing of a Park and Ride there to try and get people to transfer from car to rail. The MP said: “I am a strong advocate of creating a new tram-train station at the old Beighton station site and expanding the network through existing railway lines in that community. We must act now to avoid being left behind by other cities which have recently extended their tram systems and have plans in place for further expansion. We have to be bold and ambitious, because other cities like Manchester, Nottingham and Birmingham have overtaken us in terms of light railway development since Supertram launched 27 years ago.”
