Victoria’s Hotel Quarantine Manager Stood Down After Breaching Infection Control Protocols
A senior public servant who was responsible for managing infection control protocols for Victoria’s hotel quarantine program has been stood down following reports of alleged compliance breaches.
Matiu Bush, who has been involved in the program since June, was stood down by Victorian Police Minister Danny Pearson on May 4 after it was revealed by The Australian that he refused to undergo a mandatory test when visiting one of the quarantine sites. Bush has been stood down with full pay.
“Last night I become aware of reports in relation to Mr Bush and I formed the opinion overnight that Mr Bush needs to be stood down pending a review,” Pearson said on May 5, reported The Australian. ....

Aussie authorities trace Perth coronavirus infections to hotel security officer

Health authorities in Western Australia have traced the recent spate of infections there to a hotel security officer. They believe that the security officer was probably infectious for five days before finally testing positive for the Wuhan coronavirus. The officer, who is in his 20s, had visited 15 locations across Perth – sending contact tracers into a frenzy to look for his potential contacts. The incident involving the security guard became the first case of community transmission in 10 months.
In response, the government of Western Australia ordered a five-day lockdown for the city of Perth and the Peel and South West regions. Furthermore, health authorities have identified 60 of the guard’s close contacts and informed them to quarantine themselves for 14 days. ....

COVID-19 Directions have been updated in South Australia in relation to the situation in Western Australia.
Updates have been made to the Cross Border Travel and Residential Aged Care Directions. These updates provide restrictions for people travelling from Western Australia.
Cross Border Travel Direction No 33 & Modification Quarantine of Former Western Australian Arrivals
The Cross Border No 33 Direction came into effect at 2pm on Tuesday 2 February 2021. The Modification Quarantine of Former Western Australian Arrivals Direction came into effect at 2.03pm on Tuesday 2 February 2021.

The whole of Western Australia is no longer a Prohibited Location. However, the current lockdown areas of Perth, Peel and South West Regions in Western Australia are still classified as a Prohibited Zone. ....
